All my favorite BBQ sauce recipes!


St. Louis-Style Barbecue Sauce

3 cups ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup finely minced onion
2 cloves garlic, minced fine
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup brown mustard
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp hot sauce

Whisk together all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer, stirring, on low heat for 20 minutes. Let cool to room temperature. May be used as a basting sauce towards the end of cooking, or brushed on after barbecuing, with additional sauce served on the side.

Southwestern Barbecue Sauce

1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup lime juice
1/4 cup white vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon chipotle chili powder
2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste

Whisk all ingredients in a saucepan, and bring to a simmer on medium-low heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 5 minutes, or until the sauce reaches desired thickness. Taste and adjust seasoning.

Memphis Barbecue Sauce

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 cup minced onion
4 cloves garlic, crushed
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups ketchup
1/3 cup prepared yellow mustard
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1/3 cup molasas
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp liquid smoke, optional

In a saucepan, sauté the onion, garlic, and salt, in the vegetable oil for 5 minutes on medium-low heat. Add the rest of the ingredients, and bring to a simmer. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes, or until the sauce reaches desired thickness. Taste and adjust seasoning.

South Carolina Barbecue Sauce

1 cup yellow mustard
1 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon butter

Whisk together all ingredients, except butter in a saucepan, bring to a low simmer, and turn off heat. Stir in butter. Let cool to room temperature. May be used as a basting sauce towards the end of cooking, or brushed on after barbecuing, with additional sauce served on the side.

Kentucky Bourbon Barbecue Sauce

1/3 cup Kentucky bourbon
2 cups ketchup
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup pineapple juice
2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon molasses
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1/2 teaspoon hot sauce

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan, and bring to a simmer on medium-low heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes, or until the sauce reaches desired thickness. When cooled, taste and adjust seasoning.

Texas Barbecue Sauce

1 1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup water
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp cayenne, or to taste

Whisk together all ingredients in a saucepan, bring to a low simmer, and turn off heat. Let cool to room temperature. May be used as a basting sauce towards the end of cooking, or brushed on after barbecuing, with additional sauce served on the side.

Asian-Style Barbecue Sauce

2 cups ketchup
1/2 cup Dijon mustard
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup rice vinegar
2 tbsp grated fresh ginger
1/2 cup minced green onions
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil

Whisk together all ingredients in a saucepan, bring to a low simmer, and turn off heat. Let cool to room temperature. May be used as a basting sauce towards the end of cooking, or brushed on after barbecuing, with additional sauce served on the side.

Alabama-Style White Barbecue Sauce

1 1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 tablespoons freshly ground black pepper, or to taste
1 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste

Whisk together all ingredients in a small bowl until blended. Brush a little on meat for just the last few minutes of cooking. Brush more on after meat comes off the grill.

Honey Dijon Barbecue Sauce

1 cup Dijon mustard
1/3 cup honey
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt

Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl. Whisk together thoroughly. May be used as a basting sauce towards the end of cooking, but be careful with direct flame so not to burn the honey. Excellent brushed on after barbecuing, with additional sauce served on the side.

Kansas City Barbecue Sauce

2 cups ketchup
2/3 cup dark molasses
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1/2 tsp ground mace
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp Tabasco
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp liquid smoke

Whisk together all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer, stirring, on low heat for 15 minutes. Let cool to room temperature.
